Will you honor God?
The Bible says, “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” -James 5:16 God's word also tells us in 2 Chronicles 16:9 that, “The eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him.” In sports, we often “pray before we play” and ask God to bless our efforts with hopes that He will give us what we need to excel. I have found that God wants our committed hearts more than He wants our winning performances. So the first two questions for you today are these: Does God have your whole heart? Are you fully committed to following Jesus Christ? The Bible says that God so loved the world that He sent His one and only Son to go to the cross and die for our sins, it goes on to say that whoever chooses to believe in Him, will not perish but have everlasting life. (John 3:16) Believing in Jesus Christ is the beginning of a relationship with God. The next step is commitment. Just as it takes commitment to become an elite athlete, it will take a commitment from you to become an elite follower of Jesus Christ. Will you choose to follow Jesus? If your answer is yes, it will not guarantee you that you will fulfill your dreams of being one of the elite players or coaches of your desired field of sports... But, if you choose to follow Jesus, He will lead you to His very best for you! Jesus said, “Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord will enter the kingdom of Heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” -Matthew 7:21 One thing is for sure: It is God's will that you follow Him! He loves you and has a great plan for your life! The only way you will find fulfillment in this life is through a knowing, growing, relationship with Him! God has called you to win! The apostle Paul wrote, “I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” -Philippians 3:14 When you choose to believe and make a commitment to follow Christ, you can be confident that He has called you to win for Him! All things are possible with God for those who believe and follow Him! The Bible says, “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us” -Ephesians 3:20 Do you believe that “you can do all things through Christ who gives you strength”? What are you waiting for?
Follow Jesus today and remember: “Those who honor me I will honor” -1 Samuel 2:30
Player/Coach Prayer of Commitment:
Ask God to forgive you for not following Him in the past.
Thank God for giving you what you did not deserve when He sent His Son, Jesus, to die on the cross for your sins.
Then, make the commitment to surrender your life to Him and honor Him with how you live and also how you play this game He has gifted you to play or coach.
